WHAT is crawfest?

Crawfest is an annual spring celebration in Tahlequah, Oklahoma that is centered on New Orleans style food, drinks, entertainment, and of course, a never-ending supply of mouthwatering Cajun-style crawfish. The event takes place at the corner of Muskogee Ave. and Shawnee in the heart of Downtown Tahlequah at Kroner & Baer Pub. Crawfest is organized, planned, and hosted by two local businesses in collaboration with sponsors, Tour Tahlequah Organization, and Tahlequah Main Street Association. Linney Breaux's Cajun Eatery provides crawfish and other tasty Cajun cuisines. Kroner & Baer provides the location, beer, cocktails, wood-fired pizzas, and more. Roughly 3,500 pounds of crawfish was consumed at this event in 2023, and that number is expected to increase in 2024. In addition to all the delicious food, a full music line-up is provided for your entertainment. The festival also includes other food and merchandise vendors, crawfish eating contest, games, activities, as well as a kid-friendly area to make this a fun event for all ages!

CONTEST RULES

1) The Crawfish Eating Contest is a race to eat 2 LBS of crawfish the fastest.

After the eating competition start has been announced, contestants will begin eating. The crawfish tail must be stripped, and all the meat eaten. Sucking of the head is not required. Any uneaten crawfish will result in time penalty. Contestants that claim they have finished their 2lb serving of crawfish will raise their hand. ONLY raise your hand if you’re sure all tail meat has been eaten! The finished contestant will then stop eating and the tray will be examined by the judges before the winner is announced. Remainng competitors will continue eating during this time while the judges determine, if in fact all tail meat has been eaten.

Any Contestant that calls for time by raising their hand must eat the 2lb portion of crawfish completely without any proteins (tail meal) remaining. If determined by the competition judge there is crawfish tail meat remaining, a :30 second time penalty for each piece not eaten will be added to the contestants completion time.

The top three fastest of the preliminary rounds will advance to the Finals held during the Crawfish Festival on Saturday, April 13th at 5:30 PM.

2) Contestants need to be at Linney Breaux’s ticket booth to check-in forty-five minutes before round begins.

3)Competitors must remain in their designated areas throughout the contest. Leaving your area will result in immediate disqualification.
